INGLÉS --> PASSIVE VOICE

 

PASSIVE VOICE:

 

1)      Look at the following sentence:

A young girl described the murder. (ACTIVE VOICE)

                                                                   Direct Object

 

 

What did the young girl describe?

 

Let´s see how we turn this sentence into Passive Voice:

 

Ø  “The murder”à becomes into the new SUBJECT

Ø  Then we have to identify the verb and the TENSE of it, in this case we have DESCRIBEDà PAST SIMPLE.

Ø  SENTENCE: The murder was described by the young girl

Ø  Subject

Ø  Verb to be in the tense we have the main Verb.

Ø  Past participle of the main verb

Ø  Who performs the action


LET´S PRACTISE! Rewrite these sentences in Passive Voice. PRESENT SIMPLE

 

1.-Students choose the  subject.-->                      The subject is chosen by them

2.-Someone writes an article about sports.                       

3.-Someone reads and checks the article           

4.-Other students design the page                                       

5.-Another student draws the pictures             

6.-The girls take the photographs.         

7.-They scan the pictures                                                          

8.-They put the pictures in the pages.  

9.-They send the disc to the printer.                    

10.-Finally they sell the magazine 

II.-Change into Passive Voice

1.-People speak Spanish and English in Costa Rica.  

2.-They sell apples and oranges at the greengrocer’s

3.-They make clothes of synthetic fibre.

4.-We recycle paper

5.-They reuse some electronic parts.

6.-They throw the rubbish into the right container.

PAST SIMPLE:

1.      She bought four apples.
.

2.      We won the match.
.

3.      The man stole the blue car.
.

4.      The police arrested the thieves.
.

5.      Jack swam the 200 metres.
.

6.      The dog bit the old lady.
.

7.      Tom and Max ate five hamburgers.

.

10.  Grandmother told good stories.
